What’s your favorite part about a camping trip in your new or used RV? It’ll help you pack for the day and stay safe, prepared, and having fun.

RV Tips

Mini First Aid Kit & Essential Tools

Make sure to pack along a mini first aid kit in your backpack. A pre-assembled storebought kit is good start with, but supplement it with the following if it doesn’t already have it:

  • hand sanitizer
  • antiseptic wipes
  • waterproof bandages
  • instant cold packs
  • insect repellant
  • sunscreen
  • bug bite ointment

One thing that’s handy is to invest in single-use packets of ointments – it packs a bit easier, and doesn’t risk bursting open like tubes of ointment do.

It’s essential to also pack any medication you either take routinely or may even need only periodically – like an inhaler, epi pen, or insulin. That way, if you end up being out longer than you’d intended or planned, you’ve got the essentials you need.

You also need to throw a few handy tools in your backpack without adding a lot of weight. You can keep this one simple. Add the following:

  • a multitool
  • small LED flashlight with extra batteries
  • handheld compass
  • fully charged power bank for your device (we recommend one that can charge in the sun)

Dress in Layers

Layering what you wear is ideal for fickle spring days, which tend to be chilly in the morning and evening, warm in the middle, and unexpectedly rainy. Lightweight, quick-drying pans and shirts are perfect for day hikes. Pants that convert to shorts by unzipping at the knee are perfect for this. You’ll also want a lightweight, packable jacket that you can squash into your backpack when you work up a sweat. And merino wool socks wick away moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable in any weather.

Food Stuffs

Packing along adequate food and water is essential. Granola bars, jerky, and trail mix make awesome snacks throughout the day. And pack adequate water – this is one you’ll need to concede the extra weight for. Plan on needing 2 liters of water per person, per 4 hours of hiking.

Planning your day hike appropriately is the key to getting the most out of exploring. And choosing the right new or used RV is also the key to getting the most out of your vacations for years to come. Contact us today – we can help you choose the perfect unit!
