This park is located in Laingsburg, Michigan and only a short drive to Lansing, Michigan’s capitol. This park features over 2,600 acres including a river winding its way through the woods, fields and trails. Lake Ovid nestled in the middle of it all was developed by damming the Little Maple River and covers 410-acres. The park offers year-round opportunity for recreation.

Nature Viewing
There’s tons of opportunities to enjoy the Beaty of Michigan. According to the website, “more than 228 species have been recorded in Sleepy Hollow, from the common Blue Jay to the Eastern Bluebird. During migration, look for waterfowl in Lake Ovid. The rarely recorded Bonaparte’s Gull or Bald Eagle also have been sighted.”
Fishing
Lake Ovid features a ton of fishing opportunities for experienced and novice anglers alike. The park’s website states, “Lake Ovid has proven to be a very popular fishing lake with a wide variety of fish such as muskie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, rock bass, perch, catfish and bullheads. Two fishing piers are available as well as access to various shore fishing sites.”
During the winter ice fishing can be enjoyed on Lake Ovid with ample space for fishermen to set up a complete ice fishing shanty.
Hunting
Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy hunting a variety of animals at Sleepy Hollow. Park lands are open to hunting and trapping during the appropriate seasons. Excellent hunting for ducks, deer, rabbit and squirrel. Turkey, woodcock, pheasant, quail and grouse can also be found in the park and are a favorite among hunters.
